Our Martial Arts Program is designed to not only train our students in the time-honored traditions of Shotokan karate, but to be a great total-body workout as well. The workouts are thorough, incorporating stretching, kicking, punching, blocks, grappling, kata (forms) and kumite (sparring). The martial arts program is not only an exercise for the body, but one for the mind as well. Discipline is the key to success in any pursuit in life, and the martial arts can help develop these valuable skills. When the mind works in harmony with the body, it becomes an awesome weapon - but you will develop the confidence to use these skills only as the last means of self defense. World Champion Tokey Hill has shown that if you train students like champions they can become champions. Tokey Hill's teaching staff have all been personally trained by Tokey Hill. Our staff is a family tree three generations long and growing.
World Champion Tokey Hill Karate is made up of the finest world class instructors. Tokey Hill's method of training and teaching is why he has produced numerous National Champions, Pan American Games Champions and World Contenders since 1982.
Our teaching staff knows that continuity and openness are critical ingredients for teaching practical self-defense. Tokey Hill's instructors follow a unique curriculum that combines their Shotokan foundation mixed with state of the art training techniques, modified to work from a grass roots to an elite level. This open minded approach allows the Tokey Hill staff to incorporate modern fighting theories, and a scientific approach to fitness and strategy, with traditional aspects of martial arts. Our championship proven methods of training enable our students and instructors to grow and learn together. Tokey Hill is America’s first proven World Karate Champion as stated by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Shotokan is a Japanese martial art. It is named after its founder, Gichin Funakoshi, whose pen name was "Shoto". "Kan" is the Japanese word meaning style. Therefore, these two words were combined to form the word "Shotokan". The translation of this is "Gichin Funakoshi's Style". The style of Karate-Do (the way of the Empty Hand) is taught and studied at the Karate Center of Champions.
